St Matthew 25: ‘For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
Jesus links feeding the hungry to ministering to himself, I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. Caring for vulnerable, hungry people is not only following Jesus’ lead, it’s akin to caring for Jesus, which is what grounds our Community Outreach Ministry at THCOGIC. When Jesus walked the earth, he experienced hunger and thirst just like us. When he spoke with the crowds, he acted with compassion to meet their needs both spiritual and physical.
As a result, we are compelled to support those in our local community who may be in need through our monthly Soup Kitchen, THCOGIC Community Pot. This new outreach program, which is located at our E7 Branch, operates on the first Saturday of each month. The Soup Kitchen, which is open to anyone and everyone, offers a warm meal and a friendly face to members of the local community.
Our Food Bank, which will operate on the same day as the Soup Kitchen from September 2025, offers complimentary food parcels to individuals and families in the community at a time when they may need it the most.
